Girls Soccer is Here Again!
We are looking forward to another good year of development and progression for RHS Girls Soccer.
Our numbers are up slightly this season due to a good group of Freshman, and it looks like we will have a JV so that is great news.
The team is young and generally inexperienced, but they have been working hard to get into soccer shape while learning the game.
We have 8 returners this season:
Cierra Miller - 12th
Danni Callahan - 12th
Irais Reyes - 12th
Yesenia Celis - 12th
Tawnee Gonzales (2 years ago) - 12th
Jacky Merchado - 11th
Macey Stakkland - 11th
Yuri Garcia - 11th
Danni Callahan will handle the Goal Keeping duties once again this year. She has good hands and uses her athleticism to her advantage. She learned a lot last year, and should give the defense confidence because they know she is backing them up.
Jacky Merchado will be our center defender, and it will be her job to organize the defense in an effort to keep things organized at the back. She has good vision and an ability to transition and that will be key for us.
Yesenia Celis is going to play outside defense for us this year. In the past we have played her up top, but this year we are going to try to take advantage of her experience and good foot to break down our opponents attack and get the ball forward quickly.
Tawnee Gonzales and Macey Stakkland will be handling things in the center of the pitch. They are both aggressive, good with the ball, want to attack, and are tough. They also transition well, and see the weak side and understand space. Much of what the team tries to do will rest on their shoulders, but they should be equal to the task.
Cierra Miller will be moving into the attack this year. She has pace and is aggressive and uses her body well. She will be linked with several newcomers, but she has already done well to establish good chemistry with them and the team in her new position. It will take a little while for her to settle in, but it should be a fun year for Cierra.
Yuri and Irais will fill in for us at several positions and both will work hard to be a utility player. Yuri has already shown great improvement and tenacity, so it will be fun to watch her continue to improve.
There have been a few changes to the league this year. We went to a single table which means there is no longer a split East/West. For the league we will play everyone (Warden, Wahluke, Connell, Ki-Be, Cle Elum, Naches, Highland, LaSalle, Mabton, Granger, Goldendale) in the district once. This will make for a more accurate look at the league table and will also make the games more competitive across the table. Should make for a good year.
Join us for a match on the new FieldTurf under the lights in the stadium. Varsity will play at 6pm on weeknights, and 11am on Saturday. We pushed for the move to FieldTurf in the stadium so we could move kickoff to an hour in which more parents could attend, and we welcome you to our new home in the David Neilson Memorial Stadium. You as Soccer Players and Fans Hold an EQUAL SHARE of the Improved Facility! Come Make It Your Own!
