Royal 3 @ Chelan 0
Non-League Friendly
Drove to Chelan, Coach Jensen kicked the ball into the goal 3 times, had pizza, then drove home. Chelan forfeit. What a waste of time.

Royal 2 vs. Alumni 4
Non-League Friendly
Due to the problems with Chelan we were able to quickly schedule this match with the alumni and get everything organized to make it a real test for the boys. A big thank you to those alumni that answered the call on short notice and the referees that made the trip.
Alex Ramirez and Shaq Ledezma picked up goals, and Adam Martinez got his first assist.

Royal 2 vs Highland 1
Non-League Friendly
STATS ATTACHED!
First win against Highland at home since 2003 - We beat them in Highland in 2008, but it ended 1-1 and we beat them in a shoot out.
The boys played well, but we went into the break down 1-0 based on a poorly judged back-pass to our keeper. Highland forward picked it off and poked it away.
Second half we made a few adjustments and did a better job of keeping the ball down and playing into dangerous areas and were able to stretch the Highland defense. Shaq converted on a well placed cross from Enrique Torres, and Luis Esquivel fought off 3 defenders for a loose ball to net the winner. Great win against an always tough Highland side.

Royal 2 @ Mabton 1
Non-League Friendly
25 March 2010
STATS:
http://www.rhs.royal.wednet.edu/sports/soccer/rhsboys/stats/2010/atmabton.htm
Despite having in excess of 30+ shots and 15+ Corners, it took until the second half for Luis Esquivel to equalize following Mabton's 2nd minute goal. A misjudgment on the ball for one of our defenders gifted the Mabton forward a 1v1 with Carlos in goal.
Windy, a horrible surface, and a on a pitch right at the minimum size. It was ugly, but we dominated play from the 25th minute on, and got the go ahead goal from Elias Corona in the second minute of the first overtime.
Here is the shot chart to give you an idea about how this match went:

Royal 8 vs Granger 1
Non-League Friendly
6 March 2010
Stats attached!!
A lot of wind again! Granger had the wind in their favor 1st half, but we found ourselves up by two at the break due to some good wing play and also speed in front of goal.
Second half the boys were able to push forward and find the net - all fairly direct movements, but quality finishes.
According to the Stats, Adam and Shaq picked up 4 goals each in what was a fine display from them both.
League will get underway this Saturday @ Warden in what looks like is going to be another match in the wind and weather.

Royal 1 @ Warden 0
League Match
10 April 2010
Played at Warden. Warden had the wind first have and had one good chance that required a breakaway save from goalkeeper Carlos Barajas.
Luis Esquivel scored Royal's only goal in the first half by hammering home a loose ball in the Warden box.
Warden had a few chances in the second half, nothing that was too dangerous. The defense did well to keep the Warden attack out of Carlos' area - earning themselves another clean sheet.

Royal 0 @ Wahluke 1
League Match
15 April 2010
Stats in the AM.
Wahluke controlled the midfield and had us on our heels looking to catch them on the break, but it never came.
Things finally opened up in the latter stages of the second half, but we were too slow to make the needed tactical changes. By the time we did make the adjustments, the boys asked a few questions of the Wahluke defense, but were unable to find the back of the net.
We felt we had a good shout for a penalty with about 4 minutes to go when Shaq Ledezma was pulled down from behind, but the Wahluke referees waved it away.
A tough loss, but we learned quite a bit and hope to be better prepared when we see them at home in a few weeks.

Royal 1 vs. Connell 2
League Match
17 April 2010
A wonderful result and a cracking match.
1st half ended 0-0. Royal controlled much of the play first half and had a number of good opportunities. This trend continued into the second half when Alex Ramirez scrambled the go ahead goal in the 48th minute.
Connell stormed back in a search for an equalizer, and in general they were seeing more of the ball and got their reward in the 54th minute from a wonderful strike from distance by Christian Torres. His shot looked to float over the crossbar, but dipped in the final yards to kiss the underside on its way into the net.
From this point things opened up and it began to be an end to end affair with both clubs having some frantic moments, including a clear chance for Connell at the back post that should have seen them go ahead.
As the second half came to a close Connell faded and Royal was able to scratch the ball into the net once again via Jose Nava in the 77th minute. Royal was then able to open up the field and see the match out to claim all three of the points.
The win brings Royal to 2-1 in league with 6 points, and Connell to 2-2 with 5 points due to the Shoot Out win vs. Warden on Thursday. Royal will finish out the first half of league with Ki-Be at home on Thursday.

Royal 11 vs. Ki-Be 0
League Match
22 April 2010
STATS ATTACHED!
Very windy first half - Ki-Be had the wind. Ki-Be was a weakened side due to missing a number of players fighting schedule conflicts.
They didnt ask many questions of our defense, and generally we were too strong for them.
Our boys played very well and looked very organized today.
Big week for us next week as we see Warden at home Tuesday, Wahluke at home on Thursday, and Connell away on Saturday.
This Saturday we have a bye.

Royal 1 vs. Warden 2 (Shootout)
27 April 2010
League Match
Warden parked the bus and played us very physical in an effort frustrate our attack. In all it was an ugly match and we caused ourselves a lot of grief by making mistakes and failing to take opportunities to win the game.
Warden's first goal was an Own Goal from our keeper. A ball was miss-kicked by a Warden attacker high into the air and our keeper mishandled the ball and knocked it into his own net. There was not a player within 15 yards of him.
Jesus Ceja was able to bring the score back to level with a fine header to the back post and we went into the break 1-1.
The score remained 1-1 and it was more of the same. Warden with 10 of the 11 players packed inside the area and fouling anytime someone was beat. We had a couple of chances to catch them out, but were unable to get the final pass needed.
We started pushing players forward to find the winner and that left us open at the back providing Warden with a pair of good chances - one off of a set piece and one from a break away following a mistake from one of our defenders.
The first period of golden goal overtime brought a red card for a Warden player who handled the ball on the goal line to keep us from scoring.
We stepped up to take the penalty for the win, but it was blocked.
The Second OT period didnt have much in it so - penalties.
Both teams scored the first five and so it went to the number 6 shooter and Warden made it and we did not.
Credit to Warden for finding a style that works with the players they have. They were very industrious and earned the shootout. In addition, their keeper did very well.
Warden picks up 2 points and remains in 4th place. Royal picks up a point and stays in 2nd place with a game in hand.
Information about points and Players in the Shoot Out can be found on the stats.

Royal 1 vs. Wahluke 0
29 April 2010
League Match
Stats Attached
A wonderful response to the disappointing loss against Warden! The boys rebounded off of a very unlucky match with a HUGE win against a very strong Wahluke side.
The wind calmed as the match went on and Wahluke had the wind first half. They pressured and pushed men forward to get the scoring started - coming close with a free kick 25 yards out that struck the crossbar.
Generally we tried to survive with the wind in our face and do the best we could to shut down any shot and put bodies in the midfield. We did generate some attack, and even had a clear goal taken away from a very strange and questionable offside flag. A player no where near the ball or play was ruled offside when Luis Esquivel broke down the left side to beat 2 defenders and the keeper at a very tight angle.
Second half we tried to continue to move the ball away from pressure and generally pressurize Wahluke at any opportunity and it caused tempers to start to flare up.
We had been threatening to make runs behind the Wahluke defense all night and we finally got our reward when Adam Martinez got free of his man and hit a beautiful shot across the face of goal and into the far post from just inside the penalty area.
At 1-0 we looked to frustrate and pressure Wahluke in an effort to test their endurance, and once again tempers began to flare as Wahluke's frustration rose. This lead to an unfortunate 5 minute period where the match was stopped due to a brouhaha both on the field and in the stands. Nothing came of it, but it took a while to get sorted out.
Once play resumed the match continued in much the same way, and we played the ball forward and held up under some stiff pressure from Wahluke to secure the win!
This brings our record to 4 Wins, 1 Loss, and 1 Shootout Loss for a total of 13 points - Currently tied with Connell who also picked up a win against Warden.
We travel to Connell for a battle for first place Saturday with Royal, Connell, and Wahluke all sitting on 13 points.
Connell just has the one match remaining, and Wahluke has a match with Ki-Be Saturday and Warden on Tuesday.
We have Connell Saturday and Ki-Be Tuesday.

We were unable to get it done in connell. It was generally an ugly match due to conditions and our injury situation, but Connell was deserving.
Ki-Be is Wednesday due to wind on Monday.

We had a really difficult time at Ki-Be getting adjusted to the size and surface, and at times we were our own worst enemy, but we picked up the 3 points. It was a good primer for our 1st round district match at Mabton on Saturday as their surface, size of field, and playing style is very similar.
2 of the 3 goals today were scored by our only senior starter and captain, Jesus Ceja. The first a PK in the first half, and the second a once in a lifetime overhead kick from 18 yards out that was hammered into the upper corner.
The 3rd goal was scored by Adam Martinez in the second half.
The win puts us tied with Connell for 2nd place with 16 points - A full 6 points (2 wins) ahead of 4th place Warden.
Due to the number draw we travel to Mabton on Saturday, 11 AM, for a loser out match. Mabton will be tough and will want revenge for us knocking them out of the district tournament last year.

It is difficult to explain to a person how you can control the play, tempo, have more chances on goal - and still get beat.
If you watched the match today... You are fully aware of what I mean.
Connell - 2 shots on goal and 2 goals scored. Neither were spectacular or special - neither had beautiful flowing movements or flashes of individual brilliance, but they scored - we did not, and that is all that matters.
Royal hit the upright, the crossbar, and had chance after chance with no reward.
The boys played well and were inspired in their effort and output - the game can be incredibly cruel. What a wonderful group of boys - they certainly did not deserve to have the year end today.
This is High School Soccer. Thanks for another good year boys.
