Hello Knight Fans! The Knights continue to pull out close wins and keep their season alive. This past Saturday they fought through a winter storm and a tough Colville Indian squad to earn the victory and set up a quarterfinal matchup with the Chelan Mountain Goats this Saturday at 4pm at the Apple Bowl in Wenatchee. It will be the second game of a double-header of great post-season football. The first contest, scheduled for 1pm, will be the other eastside quarterfinal between the Cashmere Bulldogs and the Connell Eagles; a rematch of an early season matchup that ended in victory for the Bulldogs. The two winners will move on to face each other in the semifinals the following week for a chance to play for the Championship.
At Colville, Royal again spotted their opponent points early. The second play from scrimmage for Colville was a 79-yard gallop by senior Alex Pond. The Indians jumped out to an early 14-0 lead in the first quarter and Royal had to scrap their way through the second quarter to put up 20 points and pull to within one at halftime. The Knights final score of the first half came with under 30 seconds remaining as Royal quarterback Alex Myrick found Christian Guerrero through the air for a 15-yard strike.
The two teams traded touchdowns in the 3rd quarter and the Knights continued to trail 28-26 heading into the final period. The Knights struck first to open the 4th quarter when Guerrero scored his 3rd touchdown of the afternoon on a 3-yard scoring run. Colville running back Colton Davis put the Indians back ahead with a one yard plunge into the end zone. (Davis finished the game with 243 rushing yards on 34 carries.)
With 3:22 left in the game, Myrick put the Knights ahead for good with a one yard touchdown run of his own. On their next possession, Colville moved the ball out near midfield before Royal linebacker Marcos Morales scooped up a loose ball for a Royal turnover. Facing 4th and long and needing a first down to salt away the remainder of the game, senior running back Alex Ramirez broke loose long enough to pick up the first down and put the Knights into victory formation.
Royal was able to lean on their offensive line late in the game when they needed to and turn to the running game to secure the victory. Ramirez finished with 110 yards on 14 carries and Guerrero earned individual honors for his three touchdown performance, but it was the offensive line that paved the way to the win.
This Saturday the Chelan Goats will pose an even greater challenge. They put away the Cle Elum Warriors last Friday night in a true blizzard. To read my recap of that game follow the link below.

The Goats have been on fire since the return of their junior quarterback Michael Amsel Jr. and several other injured teammates. Since Amsel's return, the Goats are 6-1 with their only loss coming in the final seconds at Cashmere. Despite Amsel's athleticism, the Goats are far from a one-man team. Seniors Cole Schwartz, Matt Robinson, and Matt Peterson are all potent weapons.
